How does wireless broadband from Access Broadband work?
We use radio technology rather than copper cables to connect your home to our network.

We have strategically placed high-sites in coverage areas which have internet connectivity.  On your home or business we install a radio and an antenna ( often installed high up on your home)

This radio and antenna connects your home or business to the nearest Access Broadband base station. Each base station links back wirelessly to our central hub. Our hub in turn connects to fiber optic cable which links to our Data Centre. From there users connect to the World Wide Web

How are customers connected?

Customers are connected to the Access Broadband network using an external antenna. Before the customer is installed, engineers perform a quality check to ensure a valid signal can be received. Connectivity is generally available within 1.5 miles from each high site.
 

What is a line of sight (LOS)?

For our wireless service to work the customer antenna must have an unobstructed view - 'line of sight' (LOS) of our nearby base station. This is because our base stations operate at extremely low power output - unlike mobile phone signals they cannot penetrate walls We carry out initial LOS tests using sophisticated software called Geographical Information Systems. This software enables us to determine if your location is within coverage, which high sites are available, signal strengths and possible Line of Sight obstructions like buildings, terrain etc. Once your location has passed GIS you are then ready to be scheduled for an installation.

What sort of radio hardware do you put on my home or business?

Pictured right is the CPE (Customer Premise Equipment) or the radio hardware which use to connect your home into our network. The subscriber units are designed for optimal performance and easy installation. It means that they are built for outdoor use, and they are weatherproof. The dimensions of this unit are: height 240mm or approx 10 inches width 170mm or approx 8 inches depth 45mm or approx 2 inches weight 0.65kg or approx 1.5 lbs
