What's so good about broadband?

Across the UK people are moving from dial up to broadband for many reasons. The primary reason for moving from dial up to broadband is because you can get more done in considerably less timet.

With broadband you can send or recieve large attachments to emails in seconds not minutes, you can listen to internet radio stations, you can download software in minutes rather than hours.  You can watch television programmes from the BBC after they've been broadcast and you can also download and watch movies.

Clever new applications like Google Earth, allow you to look at aerial photos of your home taken from satellites. With programs like iTunes, You can download music, others allow you to share photos with faraway family and friends.

What is wireless broadband ?

Most of the worlds broadband is delivered over copper wires. ADSL is the most popular broadband, where broadband is delivered over your telephone line. ADSL is certainly a good technology, however it has limitations, the most annoying being that you need to be located within 3 or 4 miles of the telephone exchange for it to work. Cable is another way that broadband is delivered - this is similar in concept to how Cable Television is delivered, i.e. over cables.

Advances in technology have meant that it's no longer necessary to deliver broadband over copper wires. Wireless is not a new technology - in fact it was over 100 years ago that Marconi succesfully achieved the fist trans-Atlantic radio transmission from Ireland to the East cost of America. Today wireless is a common way of recieving television (analogue and digital), telephony (mobile and chordless). With wireless - data connections are made over radio waves rather than copper wires and it's the technology of the future.
